Connecting Instagram Ads on Oviond

Steps to assist you in connecting Instagram Ads on Oviond, including permissions, limitations, reconnecting, and possible error messages

Prerequisites

  • Ensure you have an Oviond account with administrative access.

  • Verify that your Instagram account is a Professional account and linked to the correct Facebook Page.

Instagram Ads Permissions

Follow the instructions in this article to make sure your Instagram account is a Professional account.

If you already have a Professional account, please follow these steps to make sure you are linked to the correct Facebook Page:

  1. Go to Instagram from your phone.

  2. Go to Settings.

  3. Go to Account.

  4. Go to Linked Accounts/Sharing to other apps (depends on the version of Instagram you have installed).

  5. Check that the Facebook Page is connected there.

If you have followed the steps above and your Facebook Page is connected to your Instagram account correctly, the next step is to link it to your Meta Business Suite.

  1. Sign in to Meta Business Suite.

  2. Go into the Business Account that the Ad Account belongs under.

  3. Select 'Business Settings'.

  4. On the menu on the left side, allocate the Accounts section and click on 'Instagram Accounts'.

  5. If the Instagram account does not appear in the list at this stage, you will need to follow the steps on Business Manager to add the Instagram Account to Business Manager. Continue with the next step if the Instagram account is already on the list.

  6. Select the Instagram account and then click on 'Connected Assets'.

  7. If there are no Connected Assets, click on Add Assets and allocate the Facebook Ad Account and then click on Add (The Ad Account for this client needs to be featured under Connected Assets in order for the Instagram Ad Account and Facebook Ad Account to be linked).

The last step is to make sure that you are added as a “People” to the Ad Account. Follow these steps to ensure this is the case:

  1. Go to 'Business Settings'.

  2. Go to People.

  3. Allocate your name on the list.

  4. Check that the Ad Account is listed as an Assigned Asset, if not, click on Add Assets and allocate the Instagram Ad Account to your name.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Connecting Instagram Ads to Oviond

  1. Make sure you are logged out of Facebook

  2. Open Oviond and navigate to the client you want to connect Instagram Ads to.

  3. Select Project or Start a New Project

    • Select the project you want to work on or start a new project.

    • If starting a new project, it will automatically open in the Workspace Editor.

  4. Access the Project Workspace Editor

    • Click 'Edit' to access the Project Workspace Editor if you are working on an existing project.

  5. In the action sidebar menu on the right, select Data Sources.

  6. Click on Instagram Ads.

  7. An authentication pop-up will appear (The first authenticated account will automatically be called "Default Instagram Ads Account") and you can change this in Data Sources.

  8. Go through all the steps in the pop-up.

  9. Choose Default Instagram Ads Account then click 'Next'.

  10. Select the Instagram Ads account you would like to connect and click 'Save'.

Additional Information

Unable to Find Your Instagram Ad Account on Oviond

If you are still not able to connect your Instagram Ads account to Oviond, one of these issues could be preventing you from doing so:

You are not an admin of the Facebook page:

Your Instagram account needs to be set up as a Professional account on Instagram and your personal Facebook profile needs to be set at the admin level. Only admin roles are able to connect via Facebook to an Instagram account on Oviond.

You set your account up on Facebook, not Instagram:

If you set your Instagram profile up via Facebook instead of on your mobile device, this may have created some connectivity issues which could be preventing you from connecting your Instagram accounts successfully to Oviond.

This can easily be fixed by following these few steps:

  1. Go to Instagram in your Facebook Settings and Disconnect Instagram from the page.

  2. From your mobile, switch your Instagram account back to a Personal account.

  3. Go through the steps of switching your Instagram account into a Professional account and follow the steps to connect to the current Facebook page.

Note: Before going ahead with the above steps, make sure that you remove Oviond as a Business Integration from Facebook as well as log out of Facebook. This step is very important to make sure the connection is done correctly.

Boost posts through Meta Business Suite:

Please note that if you boost your post through Meta Business Suite, the Instagram Ad account will not pull through onto Oviond with the Instagram Ads integration. In order for you to get this data, you will need to use our Facebook Ads integration and pull by data view Campaigns.

Reconnecting Instagram Ads to Oviond

If you get this error message on your report:

Please follow these steps:

  1. Click on the refresh button in the widget or next to the date selector in the project.

    if the widgets still don't load data

  2. Click on 'Connect' in the widget and make sure you have connected the correct Instagram Ads account.

    if the widgets still don't load data

  3. Go to Data Sources and refresh the token for the authenticated account you connected to the client.
