Connecting Instagram on Oviond

Steps to assist you in connecting Instagram on Oviond, including permissions, limitations, reconnecting, and possible error messages

Introduction

This article provides detailed steps to connect and use Instagram on Oviond, covering permissions, limitations, and troubleshooting.

Prerequisites

  • Ensure you have an Oviond account with administrative access.

  • Your Instagram account needs to be a Professional account and linked to the relevant Facebook Page.

Step-by-Step Instructions

In order to connect your Instagram account to Oviond, it needs to be linked to the relevant Facebook Page, as you will connect your Instagram Page to Oviond using the logins to the Facebook Profile that manages that Facebook Page the Instagram account is linked to.

Connecting Instagram to Oviond

  1. Make sure you are logged out of Facebook.

  2. Open Oviond and navigate to the client you want to connect Instagram to.

  3. Select Project or Start a New Project

    • Select the project you want to work on or start a new project.

    • If starting a new project, it will automatically open in the Workspace Editor.

  4. Access the Project Workspace Editor

    • Click 'Edit' to access the Project Workspace Editor if you are working on an existing project.

  5. In the action sidebar menu on the right, select Data Sources.

  6. Click on Instagram.

  7. An authentication pop-up will appear (The first authenticated account will automatically be called "Default Instagram Account") and you can change this in Data Sources.

  8. Go through all the steps in the pop-up.

  9. Choose Default Instagram Account then click 'Next'.

  10. Select the Instagram account you would like to connect and click 'Save'.

Unable To Find Your Instagram Account on Oviond

If you can't find your Instagram account in the drop-down when connecting to Oviond, there are a few reasons why this could be the case:

Possible reason 1:

You are not an admin of the Facebook Page: Your Instagram account needs to be set up as a Professional account on Instagram and your personal Facebook profile needs to have a role as an Admin on the Page. Only admin roles are able to connect via Facebook to an Instagram account on Oviond.

Possible reason 2:

The connection between your Facebook Page and Instagram account is not set up correctly: This can easily be fixed by following these instructions.

Possible reason 3:

The account might not have access to Instagram assets in Meta Business Suite.

Follow these steps to check:

  1. Go to Business settings in your Facebook Business account.

  2. Go to People under Users.

  3. Click on your name or the name of the person trying to add Instagram on Oviond.

  4. Make sure that the Instagram Page is added as an Assigned Asset.

Possible reason 4:

Not all your Facebook Pages have pulled through on Oviond when you originally authenticated the account. Here is how you can reauthenticate Facebook on Oviond:

  1. Remove both Instagram and Facebook from your client account.

  2. Delete both the Instagram and Facebook integration tokens in the Data Sources section of your Oviond account.

  3. Login to your Facebook account and go to Business Integrations in Settings.

  4. Tick Oviond and then click 'Remove'.

  5. Tick Delete posts, videos, or events Oviond posted on your timeline.

  6. Click 'Remove'.

  7. Log out of your Facebook account.

  8. Return to Oviond and connect Instagram and/or Facebook again. You will be prompted to log in to your Facebook Profile again.

Possible reason 5:

Check that there isn't a "Review Connection" warning on Facebook. Navigate to Instagram under Settings on the Facebook Page and check that there is no warning message there for the connection to be reviewed.

Additional Information

Limitations With Instagram on Oviond

Here are the limitations on Instagram according to the Instagram API documentation:

  • follower_count, online_followers, and all audience_* metrics are not available on IG Users with fewer than 100 followers.

  • Insights data for the online_followers metric is only available for the last 30 days.

  • If insights data you are requesting does not exist or is currently unavailable the API will return an empty data set instead of 0 for individual metrics.

  • Demographic metrics only return the top 45 performers (e.g., for audience_city, up to 45 cities with the highest number of followers can be returned).

  • Only viewers for whom we have demographic data are used in demographic metric calculations.

  • Summing demographic metric values may result in a value less than follower count (see previous bullet point).

  • audience_* metrics do not support since and until range parameters.

  • Data used to calculate metrics may be delayed up to 48 hours.

Reconnecting Instagram to Oviond

If you get this error message on your report:

Please follow these steps:

  1. Click on the refresh button in the widget or next to the date selector in the project.

    if the widgets still don't load data

  2. Click on 'Connect' in the widget and make sure you have connected the correct Instagram account.

  3. Go to Data Sources and refresh the token for the authenticated account you connected to the client.
